Posted December 7, 2004: When you receive an application for abatement of property taxes do you send out a letter to the applicant stating that your application has been received at the Town Office and what date it was filed and if you do have a letter could you please send me a copy.

Responses: We do not send out a letter as all abatements I have dealt with the resident comes in for the application and then hand delivers it as well. (Sandra Blake, Searsport)

Readfield's board of assessors just adopted a policy to send a letter exactly as you've described. We haven't sent any out yet, but due to previous experiences all abatement requests will now be answered by a letter of receipt. (Stefan Pakulski Town Manager and Tax Collector Town of Readfield)

The Town of Limerick does not send out abatement letters. (Judy LaPage, Limerick)
