Posted by Michelle Fournier (Gardiner) June 16, 2005: I had a question about fleet vehicle registrations. We are starting to get more businesses with larger fleets of vehicles here in Gardiner... Which is a good thing. However, these companies are coming in with 10 or more vehicle registrations at a time and wanting us to complete them immediately while they wait at the counter. This is fine on a slow day, but usually its not that slow in here.I was wondering if anybody had a policy or proceedure in place to deal with

Responses:

No, but I try to encourage them to call ahead or fax there information so that we can have them all ready when they come in. (Laurie Boucher, Richmond)

Our MV Agent has the fleet owners notify her in advance with a specific day they are going to be in. She then runs them all in the morning and is able to call the owner with a total so that they can bring a check to her that
day for the correct amount. But we have no policy. She just explains the convenience of it to them and most oblige. (Sue Ellen, Waterboro)

ask them to call ahead so you can have them ready to go. (Derik Goodine, Naples)

Winthrop has several businesses with fleet expirations. Our office has
requested them to drop off the registrations ahead of time; this has worked
out well for us and the businesses don't seem to mind. Usually the office
managers will drop them off in the morning and we will have them ready for
pick up in the afternoon. Winthrop also has Rapid Renewal and we have seen
an increase in businesses, with and without fleet expirations, who use that
service... which makes us happy! Like Gardiner, Winthrop has very few slow
days and these businesses are more than happy to take care of these
registrations ahead of time and not hold up the residents who come in for a
quicker transaction. (Lisa Gillam, Winthrop)

Gray has experirnced the same and we have a procedure in place that each
fleet entity should first call our offices and work with one of our counter
personnel in advance. By getting as much done by phone, and asking them to
drop of the reg's to us we will process them throughout the day as time
permits. Occasionally there is the demand to get them done and it backs
everyone up but generally the fleet owners agree it works better by calling
first. (Mitch Berkowitz, Gray)
