Do any of you contract out for snow removal (as opposed to having your own highway department) and if so, how many miles of roads do you maintain (plow) and what is the annual cost? Thank you very much!
Responses: We have about 12.5 miles one way (center Miles) and our contract is 46,500 this year we supply the salt and still do plowing of town owned property and the School. We get a reimbursement from the State for 8640 to maintain RT. 2 (Julie Reed, Veazie)
Cutler's snow removal contract runs for 3 years at a time. We are in the last year of our current 3 year contract so we will need to bid it out again in a couple of months. Anyway, our current snow removal expenses are as follows: for 13.27 miles of town roads, the town office parking area and 3 or 4 school bus turn around areas: our annual cost this fall was $6,630.47 to Cargill for salt, $11,500.00 to the contractor for sand and $54,824.00 to the contractor for plowing and sanding for the season. Total cost for the year: $72,954.47 We can't imagine what our next bids will come in at with the rising cost of fuel. (Teresa Bragg, Cutler)
