Posted by Lisa Young, Cushing, January 18, 2011: This is my first year processing 1099's and I noticed that I did not have a Tax ID or SS # for one of our vendors.  I sent a W-9 but I have never received it back.  Has anyone had this problem before?  What do you do if they never send you the necessary information?

Responses:

I have not had this problem but am interested in the answer. I ran out of 1099 forms and just ordered some with IRS but is there anyplace to purchse these in case I don't get the ones from the IRS in time? (Anne Marie Flood, Cooper)

According to the Internal Revenue Service if a vendor does not supply the information, you must withhold 28% and pay it over to the IRS on Form 945.  This is called backup withholding.  If you do not backup withhold when required, you may be liable for the tax.   (See IRS Public Employer Tax Guide for 1099 Information) for further information. S & K forms in pennsylvania. Sedgwick does business with them, and they are very good—quick and eay to deal with. Also, of course, "free" forms at IRS offices. I've gotten forms at the office in Bangor many times. I don't know where the closet office to Cooper is.

Staples carries them. Check the link pasted below. Mary Thompson, Montville) http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/StaplesSearch?searchkey=1099&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&fromUrl=home
