We are inquiring as to how many towns made a conscious decision to NOT mail the Town Reports this year or last to help curve the budget.

Responses: Castine's Town Report comes out in March.  We hand deliver to those who are in town at that time.  We still mail town reports to those with an out of town address – we have a bulk of seasonal residents who pay a lot in tax dollars, the thought is that they should be in the know.  We do mail them book rate. (Karen Motycka, Town of Castine)

We decided last year not to mail annual reports.  A notice is placed in the newspaper when they are available at the town office.  We also bring copies to town meeting.  Finally, a notice is posted in the town office for our "summer" residents to pick up a copy.  This year we will be able to reduce the number of reports we must print, reducing costs even further. (Susan, Town of Westport Island)

The Town of Glenburn, do not mail the Town Reports.  We make them available in the Office and at certain places within the town and also put it on our access channel.   (Carline Dube, Glenburn)

Harpswell mails the report to residents and sends a post card to non-resident taxpayers inviting them to pick up a copy when in Town and also that the entire Town Report is posted on our website.  We also bring reports to the annual Town Meeting. (Teri Sawyer, Harpswell)

Selectmen decided not to mail to keep costs down, also decided they could no longer hand deliver--so we put them at the town office, the 2 convenience stores in town, and take a box to town meeting. Summer residents pick them up at town office later. If anyone asks to have one mailed or delivered, one of us does it... (Cindy Reilly, Sedgwick)

For the last few years we have mailed to out of state and town property owners only.  We will mail one to anyone who asks.  Residents can pick them up at the town office, local store, and at town meeting. (Lisa Young, Cushing)

In Milbridge we noly do 650 reports so we have Public Works and the Police Officers deliver them. It takes about 3 hours. (Lewis Pinkham, Milbridge)

Scarborough does not mail out town reports but have them available at the town office and library.  We also put ours on our website. (Ruth Porter, Scarborough)
