We are looking for some information regarding the operating costs for Community Centers and/or Libraries? Could anyone who operates either/both of those please give us annual operating cost figures please? Our school may be closing and citizens are requesting that we consider using the building as a community center and/or library.
Responses: The Milbridge Town Office and library shares the same building and the budget for the 40 hour a week library is $29,332 (Lewis Pinkham, Milbridge)
The Town of Milo has a Library that is opened 20 hours a week with a 2010 budget of $35550.00. We have 2 Librarians and around 6 subs. The Library is free standing. We have about 5 computers that are used by the public. They are very busy most of the time. We do have a time limit of 30 minutes if there is a waiting line. The library is also used by other sources such as GED classes, knitting club, book club, and Kiwanis kids after school programs. The library runs a Summer Reading program for area children. We also have a book reading program for children, where area adults come in and reads to the children. (Robin Larson, Milo)
The Scarborough Public Library is a separate entity from the Town but is almost fully funded by the Town. The current fiscal year budget is $797,761. (Ruth Porter, Scarborough)
