An agent from the Maine Revenue Services is in the process auditing for our  State evaluation.  He has indicated that our Commitment Book should be bound. How many communities do so and what is the cost?

Responses:Castine started doing this 2 years ago after an agent from Maine Revenue Service visited with us.  We are getting the University Maine Printing Services, 5761 Keyo Building , Orono , Maine ,  04469 -5761 to do it for us.  If I remember correctly, I think they had a couple different prices, depending upon the number of pages.  Our Commitment Book is just over 200 pages which we paid $27.80 last year – included mailing it back to us.  What a bargain!  (Karen Motycka, Castine)

Did this agent cite a statute?  (I couldn't find one).  We “bind” ours in a 3-ring binder, $6 from Quill. (Stu Marckoon, Lamoine)

It seems like possibly what they are referring to is the possibility of losing pages.  They could just as easily be ripped out of bound book as they could be removed from 3-ring or computer binder.  My feeling is that you are covered as long as pages are numbered.  (Debi Given, Holden)

Or altering pages? (Karen Motycka)

Our town has used a computer binder for years, with numbered pages and have had no problem with the State.  I agree with Stu about there not being any statute for this.  You could always call Mike Rogers in Augusta and ask him.  To the best of my knowledge he is still heading that area. Good luck, (Midge Silvio, Stoneham)
