Posted by Scott Gesuldi, Rangeley, June 29, 2007: I think I have asked this before but I can't seem to get my hands on it for the Franklin County Registry of Deeds. I know there is a statute that states a signature stamp (or facsimile) is acceptable on lien documents. Do you know what statute that is?
Responses: I don't believe that Title 36 ss941-944 addresses original vs. facsimili signatures. I am not aware of what section of the statute addresses the original signature issue.
I do know that I have not signed a lien in over 30 years. In fact, I may never have signed a lien before.
To my knowledge, the only original signature required is the Notary Public. (Paul Labrecque, Lewiston)
