Posted by Darlene Beaulieu, Manchester, June 26, 2007:I was looking for some information concerning tax liens.  If someone has a life estate on a property, has in the deed that this life estate individual is responsible for taxes, but does now own the property;  should the 30 day notice and tax lien certificate be filed with the life estates name on it as well as the actual property owners?

Responses: I would certainly do both as a start to this process and then ask our Town Attorney to verify who ultimately would be foreclosed against to make sure there were no weaknesses in the notification procedures going forward. (Mitch Berkowitz, Bridgton)
