Posted by Tammy Getchell, Chapman, Mapleton, Castle Hill May 8, 2006- Aside from purchasing postage directly from the Post Office, what do you all use for postage? Do you have postage meters? Who with? Has this proven to be cost effective? Pros/cons.
Responses:We have a postage meter through Pitney Bowes and pay $195 a quarter. The biggest advantage is the accounting so you can track postage by departments and charge those amounts to their expense accounts. (Laurie Boucher, Richmond)
At Fort Fairfield we have an Ascom-Hasler postage machine. We find it to work very well for us. In addition to sealing envelopes, it has the capability of allowing each department to have their own codes. This is convenient if each department is responsible for their own postage costs. Since it has a scale on it, it allows us to weigh and put appropriate postage on packages without having to go to the Post Office. Another good thing about this machine is we can get local service from Netherland Office Products in Presque Isle. The down side is the monthly cost for the machine is $60.00 per month.
