Posted by Michelle Fournier, Gardiner, May 5, 2006: Does anyone know if a lien certificate must have a book and page reference on it?

Responses: The B&P reference is stamped on the lien by the registry when they record it. (Dawna Myrick, Hallowell)

Yes, to be legal a lien must be recorded in the Registry of Deeds and that is where the Book and Page reference is located.n (Gilberte Mayo, Lincoln)

Michelle when you do your liens you must take them to the registry of deeds in your county. They will stamp them with a book and page they will make copies to put on file there then they will send them back to you and you have to keep them on file. It must have that B & P number on it to be legal. (Helen Archer, Eastport)

Sorry, I should have been more specific, do you need to refrence the book and page of the actual deed or is Map & Lot sufficient? (Michelle Fournier)

Map and lot is sufficient. To file the lien. (Helen Archer, Eastport)

I remember when I just started in office I had the same questions. Give me your fax number and I will send over a copy of the 30 day notice we send out (We have Trio and it does most of it for us but you can copy it) I will also send the actual lien. Let me know if I can help any more at all. (Lisa Wallace, Phippsburg)
