Posted by Janelle Zeiglar, Woodland, April 21, 2006: We were wondering what procedure(s) other Towns use when assessing personal property and who does your assessing for personal property?

Responses: Lamoine has an elected Board of Assessors.  They send out a form to each taxpayer in town they identify as likely having taxable personal property asking them to list the property and send it back.  Compliance is pretty good, especially because if we don't receive it back, they're taxed on what they had the previous year or the assessors best guess.  Tough on the best guess to actually collect and identify with serial numbers for a UCC filing, though.
