For Tax Collectors and Treasurers who assist Selectmen, Town Councils, and City Councils, the following language might prove helpful when those elected bodies choose to meet in executive session. LD 1957 passed in the Spring of 2004 requires that elected officials state the precise nature of business, and the citation of Maine Law.

Reason Way to State the Motion
Personnel Matter "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(A)"
School Student "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a school student matter pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(B)"
Negotiations for public Property "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a matter related to acquisition of public property pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(C)"
Labor Contracts "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a labor negotiations matter pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(D)"
Legal matter "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a legal matter pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(E)"
Confidential Records "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss confidential records pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(F)"
Confidential Permitting Information "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss confidential permitting information pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(G)"
Court matter regarding Code Enforcement Proceedings "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a court matter regarding Code Enforcement Proceedings brought under MRSA 30-A § 4452(1)(c) pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(H)"
